Cimetière du Père-Lachaise (continued): #35: Auguste Barbier

Henri-Auguste Barbier (1805–82) was a poet, short story writer, librettist, art critic and translator who died in Nice. He is particularly noted for his satirical poems on the 'Trois glorieuses' (28 to 30 July, 1830). His having been elected to the Académie française is notable here: he actually received four more votes than Théophile Gautier, which, to say the least, wasn't appreciated by everyone. His translations were into English: Shakespeare and Coleridge.
