In 1896 Leclerc followed Frédéric Mistral's initiative by creating a museum in Honfleur illustrating the popular arts and traditions, as well as the Société du Vieux Honfleur. He also established the Ecole des Marins de la Baie de Seine, which is today the Association La Chaloupe. He died in Honfleur.

Léon Leclerc (1866-1930) was a painter who was born and died in Honfleur. He was a staunch defender of the traditions of Normandy and the founder of the society 'Le Vieux-Honfleur' and the museum of ethnography. His paintings are representations of fishermen and the old streets of Honfleur.
