Arthur Rimbaud in Attigny, Ardennes (08)

Places around here seem to milk Rimbaud and/or Verlaine connections as much as they can, but why not? A young Rimbaud stares out onto Rue de Rimbaud in Attigny from what appears to have been the window of a restaurant called 'Un coin de table', named of course after Henri Fantin-Latour's painting of the same name, and in which appears, among other writers, a representation of Rimbaud sitting next to Verlaine.

André Dhôtel in Attigny, Ardennes (08)

Novelist and poet André Dhôtel (1900-1991), most famous for the his novel Le Pays où l'on n'arrive jamais (1955), which won the Prix Femina mentioned on the plaque, and which is partly set in the Ardennes, was born in Attigny. In his early years he lived in a house on the site of the plaque, although not the existing house because the earlier house was destroyed during World War I. He had a holiday home in Mont-de-Jeux a few kilometres away from Attigny.
