This is as good a shot of the exterior of the Verlaine museum in Juniville that I could get, as it was largely covered in scaffolding while repairs are made. Verlaine lived in Juniville between 1880 and 1882, buying (with much help from his mother Stéphanie) some land to farm on, and renting a house immediately opposite the present museum. The enterprise was a disaster. The house was demolished during the war, although the inn opposite, Au Lion d'or, survived. But for many years it was derelict, only to be saved and turned into a museum. The furnishings are intact, and Verlaine spent many hours writing here.
The inn room where Verlaine wrote and, er, perhaps drank a little.
The original desk where Verlaine wrote.
The museum contains many details relating to Verlaine's life.

A photo of Lucien Létinois, Verlaine's former pupil in Rethel whom he befriended as a son.
A representation of Verlaine.
An interesting impression of Verlaine by the writer Charles Vildrac.
Verlaine by Eugène Carrière (1890).
Upstairs, we can clearly see how the building was constructed.
The reconstruction of a classroom reminds of Verlaine the teacher.
The old bread oven downstairs.
And the rear of the inn.
