The Charles Kingsley Water Trough: London #26

This water trough is next to a bus stop near the Roundhouse on Chalk Farm Road and bears the inscription 'METROPOLITAN DRINKING FOUNTAIN AND CATTLE TROUGH ASSOCIATION' on the side facing the road.

On the south-east-facing side the inscription is 'IN MEMORIAM CHARLES KINGSLEY'. I know nothing of the history of this memorial, although I imagine that Kingsley's children's novel The Water-Babies: A Fairy Tale for a Land Baby (1863) played a large part in its conception.
