Eugène Scribe (1791–1861) was a highly successful and prolific dramatist, librettist and novelist elected to the Académie française en 1834 and in his late teens created plays with friends such as Casimir Delavigne, Henri Dupin and Delestre-Poirson. He is now all but forgotten.
