Maurice Toesca (1904–98) was a writer and journalist born in Confolens (16). He was a student of Alain's and his doctoral thesis was on George Sand. He published a large number of novels and works of non-fiction, his first novel being Le Singe bleu (1942), which won the Prix Courteline established by Roland Dorgelès in 1930. His biographies include the writers Sand, Lamartine, Alfred de Musset and Jules Renard.
