Sarane Alexandrian was born in Baghdad but at sixteen participated in the Resistance in the Limousin. He was closely linked with André Breton at the age of twenty, and never lost his admiration for him, although their interests diverged.
He wrote a number of novels and essays on art and literature, but is perhaps noted for two literary essays in particular: Le Surréalisme et le rêve (1974) and Le Socialisme romantique (1979).
