Paul de Kock in Les Lilas, Seine-Saint-Denis (93)

'CH. PAUL DE KOCK'

Le Cimetière des Lilas in Les Lilas. The son of a Dutch banker who was beheaded during the Revolution and now almost forgotten, Charles-Paul de Kock (who wrote as Paul de Kock) (1793–1871) was once immensely well known mainly for his popular, optimistic novels. A number of authors mention or allude to him in their works, among them: Dostoevski, Anatole France, Alphonse Daudet, Maupassant, Balzac, François Mauriac, Thackeray, and even Graham Greene.
