Stanhope Press in Bièvres, Essonne (91)

I was hardly expecting to see this, a printing press outside the town hall in Bièvres, but here it is, an example of the Stanhope Press, one of the first all-metal presses to appear, which was introduced into France in 1818. A sign states that they replaced the so-called 'Dutch presses', all wooden and that hadn't moved on much from the Gutenberg press of 1436. Times have changed very quickly. This particular example is from the Moulin de Vauboyen in Bièvres.
