Gilles Barbedette (1956–92) was a novelist and translator into English, and the director of Editions Rivages's Littérature étrangère. He translated Nabokov and Edmund White and was a militant homosexual, being the founder of one of France's first homosexual liberation groups. He editeed Gai pied and his book Mémoires d’un jeune homme devenu vieux (lit. 'Memoirs of a young man grown old') was published in 1993, the year after his death from AIDS.
