Ludovic Halévy (1834–1908) was a playwright, short story writer, novelist and librettist (especially in collaboration with Henri Meilhac) who is buried in Montmartre with his brother the composer Jacques-Fromental Halévy (1799–1862). His novels L'Abbé Constantin (1882) and Criquette (1883) – although works of realism – were highly successful and formed a sharp contrast to the predominant black naturalism of the day.
