Paris 2015: Edmond About, Cimetière du Père-Lachaise #6

'EDMOND ABOUT
DE L'ACADÉMIE FRANÇAISE
–––––
1828 – 1885
–––––'
This sculpture is by Gustave Crauk (1827–1905). Edmond About wrote a huge large number of works: essays, novels, plays, journalism and art criticism. He spent periods in Greece and Egypt, was a noted satirist, and in his novel Le Roi des montagnes (1957) he poked fun at a mythical Greek independence leader. Other successful novels by About include Mariages de Paris (1856), Le Roi des montagnes (1857), L'Homme à l'oreille cassée (1862) and Les Mariages de province (1868). A number of streets in France are named after him.
