Lucian Raïcu (1934–2006) was born Bernard Leibovici, and was a Romanian writer who was, Eugène Ionesco noted on the back cover of the French translation of Raïcu's Avec Gogol (1992), an authority on both Gogol and Tolstoï. Furthermore, he called him the greatest literary critic of his generation. He saw the above book, as all of Raïcu's works, as a victory against censorship.
