Lionel Britton by Geoffrey West
One of a series of photos taken by Geoffrey West for the publisher Putnam to use as publicity shots. West invited Britton to his home in Much Hadham, Herts, for the session. West (real name Geoffrey Harry Wells) was a biographer of Bernard Shaw and H. G. Wells, and had written a very favourable review of Hunger and Love in the Times Literary Supplement. Britton used to cut his own hair to save money.
